Saturday night and early Sunday morning, Southern West Virginia experienced a great deal of flooding caused by heavy rains and excessive runoff. McDowell County was a part of the flood zone and has been declared a state emergency area. If you would like to assist with cleanup efforts, please call Pastor Amanda Reed at 304-444-1122.

UMCOR Health Kits
UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) has requested that we put together health kits that can be used in Haiti (and other areas of need). Below you will find directions for putting them together. All health kits need to be delivered to the Southern District office by noon on Feb. 2 so that they can be delivered to Mission Central in Pennsylvania. Rev. Amanda Reed (First Welch & Court Street UMCs) will be making a trip on Monday, Feb. 1 to make a delivery. If you would like for her to take any health kits you may have put together, call 304-436-4330.
Health Kits
(Value: $12 per kit)
Contents:
Place all contents in a sealed one-gallon bag.
• 1 hand towel (15”x25” to 17”x27”-no kitchen towels)
• 1 washcloth
• 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket size)
• 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
• 1 bath size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
• 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes)
• 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
Note: UMCOR is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before it is sent. Please include $1 for each kit you send toward the purchase of toothpaste.
Important Kit Assembly Information:
• All items included in kits must be NEW items.
• All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items—nothing more.
• Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.
